Beaches and parks around New Zealand

General information
You are never to far away from water in New Zealand, even in the middle of the North Island you have Lake Taupo and in the South Island, Lake Tekapo. When it comes to regional and national parks, you are spoilt for choice with these scattered throughout the country.
Where possible we have included those beaches or parks that are family-friendly and provide easy to moderate walks or safe swimming beaches. We ask that parents supervise their children around water to keep them safe.
If tramping please use normal precautions,. Remember if tramping in the bush that New Zealand weather can be very changable and children should carry safety equipment such as a whistle, emergency blanket and warm clothing. Of course, making sure they are feed and watered on a hike or tramp will keep everyone happy!
Advanced trampers, surfers and mountain bikers
As Kids Friendly Travel caters for families we have left off those activities that are for experienced mountain bikers, surfers and trampers.
