Southern Discoveries

Milford Sounds

Fiordland Region

Suitable for the whole family

Location: At the Milford Visitor Centre
  Price: Mid range
Age group:  Suitable for the whole family
Southern Discoveries is perfect for travelling families.  We offer spacious boats and the catamarans (Scenic) cruises are perfect if there are little ones who need a bit of space to run around as they have extensive indoor areas and big bridge areas that they can visit.  For older children and adults there are the wide open decks.  We also have the Encounter Nature cruise which is a small boat option that is a bit longer but has onboard nature guides and a lot of resources eg pounamu, posters and books on the local wildlife as well as bringing you in closer to the fiord walls.

Our new paneling in the Milford Discovery Centre is an amazing pictorial and informational educational experience in Milford. The Discovery Centre includes information on the history of the area, early settlers, Maori visitors, the building of the Homer Tunnel, Milford Track and Milford road as well as up to date information on geological changes and our conservation project in the Sinbad Sanctuary. Then customers descend 10m underwater to see rare black coral (that looks white!!) and colourful corals and fish in their natural environment.
