Marlborough Region

The Marlborough Region is known for its wine. The best time to visit this area to enjoy the outdoor and explore this region is in spring and summer. Think swimming, kayaking and walking and you will have a family holiday to remember for years to come.

When you sail into Picton you will be sailing through the Queen Charlotte Sounds. Unfortunately the great Queen Charlotte Track is more suitable for fit trampers and not young children. However, with so many beautiful beaches and more family-friendly walks you will still have plenty to keep your child and you happy! Victoria Domain in Picton has some great walking tracks and mountain-bike trails for you to enjoy.

Picton

This small port town is the gateway to the South Island, and it is here that you will land when you take a ferry from Wellington in the North Island.

You will find a children's playground at Waikawa Bay and a 1500-square-metre skateboard park on Wairau Road. Then there is always the playground on the foreshore, and Shelly Beach and Bob's Bay are two great swimming beaches.

Blenheim

While in the area take time out to visit Blenheim. This town is smaller than Nelson and offers travellers an enjoyable stay. Enjoy the orchards, vineyards and other horticultural products that this sunny area produces. Older children will love Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre which has figures created by Weka Workshop that look, well, life-like!

Making your way to or from Blenheim is easy with rental car companies, trains and ferries, all available from the town.
