Things to remember while enjoying the great outdoors

Hiking in summer with children

Make sure that you have ample water for your hike. Each person, including children, should carry a minimum of 2 litres of water. If you suffer from weak knee joints and your accommodation has a spa, enjoy a long relaxing soak afterwards. The kids will enjoy this too!

Make sure that you and your family have adequate cold and wet weather gear, even in summer, as you are in mountain terrain and the weather can change rapidly.

Outdoors and skiing in winter

The winter weather brings its own challenges for families and it's important that you take precautions to prevent your holiday experience being one that you would rather forget than remember.

Like in summer, make sure that your clothing is warm and layers of clothes are a good idea. This will allow you to remove layers as you warm up, but still provide you with warmth when you rest or the weather turns. Remember that weather can change extremely quickly here and you need to be prepared no matter how good the day looks when you start out!

On a perfect day, with the sun gleaming on the snow, sunburn can be a problem. Make sure you cover exposed areas including under the chin, nose and bottom of the ear lobes, as these areas are often forgotten.
