Hawke's Bay

Home > Destinations > New Zealand > Hawke's Bay Region
The Hawke's Bay region is a favourite holiday spot for many families and although the region is best known for its wine there is still lots for families to do here.
Morere
The town lies at the northern end of Hawke's Bay on State Highway 2. The highlight of the area is the Morere Hot Springs which has pools for toddlers upwards.
Puketitiri
If you are heading to the Kaweka Forest Park for tramping or camping then Puketitiri is a convenient place to stop to stretch the legs. There are four main reserves in Puketitiri, with Ball's Clearing having picnic areas and toilets, with a variety of walking tracks around the reserve.
The road from Puketitiri to Kaweka Forest Park gets windier as you get closer to the forest and this will be a slow trip with children in tow.
Napier
When your family visits Napier the first thing that you will notice is that most of the town's historical buildings only date back to the 1930s. That's because Napier was devastated by a massive earthquake in 1931 that claimed the lives of 258 people.
There are many great things to do in Napier from visiting the National Aquarium of New Zealand to having fun at Onekawa Aquatic Complex.
Cape Kidnappers
Cape Kidnappers, which is administered by the Department of Consevation, is home to one of the largest and most accessible gannet colonies in the southern hemisphere.
Hastings
Lying to the east of the Ruahine Range and only 21 kilometres from the coast is Hastings. Make sure when you're visiting Hastings to take a drive up to Te Mata Peak, which gives you a panoramic view of the area.
