Fakaalofa lahi atu! Welcome to Niue
Niue is a beautiful tropical island located in the Souht Pacific. It's a place to enjoy time with your family. Think of swimming with whales and dolphins or the children can use snorkels to see the colourful fish that swimming through the coral reef.

So what sort of family holiday should I plan for when visiting Niue?
First off plan to relax while here. Enjoy being able to swim in the tropical blue waters. Don't worry about snakes, as the island doesn't have any!

Weather
The weather in Niue is tropical with temperatures ranging between 19C and 30C. Summer is May to October and winter November to April.
Airports
Niue is just a short three hours away from New Zealand. The international airport, Hanan, is less than five minutes from the main town Alofi. Most accommodation operators provide transport to their premises, but make sure you check that they do offer this service.

Passports and Visas
A passort is required to enter Niue. You do not need a visa provided that you are staying as a tourist for less then 30 days, have a return or onward ticket and sufficient funds for the lenght of your stay.
Customs
Swimwear: Do not wear your swimwear if you're in a public place, villages and the town, as this will offend the locals. If you do get catch short, then a sarong (paleu) should be worn.
Religion: Religion plays an important role in Niue culture with Sunday considered to be a day of rest and worship. Please respect the locals and remember some tourist activities many not operate on Sunday.
Language: Niuean and English are widely spoken in Niue.

Clothing
As Niue is a raise coral atoll many of the pathways are rocky. It's okay to bring jandels, but also make sure that you pack some reef shoes and strong shoes for walking in the forest or exploring caves.
Being a tropical island, remember your sunscreen and a sun hat!
Currency
The New Zealand dollar is legal tender in Niue. The main bank is in the Alofi. You will also find ATM machines, however not many shops take credit cards.
