Our pet animals are a huge hit with guests, both young and old! We have 6 free-range chickens that guests can feed and have fresh eggs for breakfast. We have pet lambs that children can bottle feed. Our 3 alpacas – Tom, Dick and Harry love eating hay out of quests hands and our Dexter cow Willow is due to calf in September and loves eating hay or apples from guests hands as well. 
 
Each cottage is set in a private garden setting with a BBQ area and outdoor furniture. We also have a playground that consists of a trampoline, petanque court, swings, slides etc and a swimming and paddling pool.

Your hosts, Nick and Judy, live on the same property (150m from John’s House). Our family are grown up and left the coop so we are quite happy to do a bit of child minding or arrange babysitters. 

 

This property has been our home since 1988. Our children have grown up here. We have planted 100’s of trees, have large gardens and massive lawn areas. The property is now a biologically managed grazing block for cattle. We have chooks, a couple of miniature KuneKune pigs, a dog and cat, a large pond with resident ducks and the Karamu Stream is on our southern boundary. Wildlife abounds including many Tui, Bellbirds, Quail and Pheasants. 
 
We grow a lot of our own fruit and vegetables. Guests are welcome to use our swimming pool. We have lived most of our lives in Hawke’s Bay and delight in helping our guests discover some of the secrets most travelers don’t get to see. 
 
We are happy to arrange activities to suit our guests, trout fishing, farm visits etc. John’s House is a fabulous architectural icon – an ideal place to relax in peace and calm and equally a centrally situated base from which to explore this wonderful region.
